Do I have a need for a home, food, clothing, joy, security, medical care, work to do, a place to be and be known?

Yes.

Then does God love LESS those who need these things?  Does He keep His promises to only those who are successful and never struggle?

No.

Could it be that Jesus isn't even talking about our physical needs but the kingdom within us?  The inner life within us all?  

What I can see at this point in my own pilgrimage is that most of the time we don't think on Jesus level or share His values.  I see that and have to keep remembering that whether I understand or not, He is in charge.
