Her courage

I met a friend for dinner several nights ago.  Minutes quickly slipped by as our conversation moved into sharing our individual journeys of faith.

Her story isn't tidy.  Is hasn't been easy - at all.  With a quiet reserve she speaks of struggles I have never faced.  Heart breaking situations I have never experienced.  I am inspired by her relentless courage to overcome.  I sense her desire to grow through the hardships of life - and yet it hasn't left her bitter or discontent.

"Until put to the test, no one can really know who or what he or she is;
 life alone manifests the quality of individual human existence."  -Jim Wolff

Courage does not mean just gritting our teeth for an endurance test.  Courage does mean drawing from an inner source, relying on the Lord's strength to give us the confidence we need.

Courage means never giving up.  Courage means believing that we can make it, not on our own power but on God's divine power.

"Be strong, stand firm... for Yahweh, your God is going with you..."  Dt. 31:1-8

"Put your hope in Yahweh, be strong, let your heart be bold..."  Psalm 27
