Insomniac

I’m up. Are you up?

I’m trying to go back to sleep. But I’m awake. Awake awake awake.

It's late for most people...2:47am. But I'm wide awake rambling around my house.

My mother enjoys telling stories of when I was a child and she would awaken to 'shuffling' noises and lights on in my room. Upon investigation finding me wide awake and rearranging my bedroom furniture. Not that this sleepless thing ends after a certain age. I still like to rearrange furniture in the middle of the night.

If you added up all the hours I’ve been awake in the middle of the night, it would come to years by now.

So what do I do while the rest of the world sleeps? Well, there are some surprising benefits to being an insomniac. Like many busy mothers, I often don't finish all of my laundry, house cleaning, and closet organization before I go to bed at night. But, I can tell myself that I am not being irresponsible because I have time to do it at 3 a.m.

Tonight, I hear noises upstairs. Strolling up the stairs to inspect the origin, I find two of my girls happily laboring away in their rooms...organizing, packing, and rearranging furniture. Alas, they got it!!

Confessions from an insomniac.

Tell me...What do you do when you can't sleep at night?
