It's the Little Things

All of us have experienced the power a single moment can have in the midst of a horribly awful day. Someone offers a word of unexpected encouragement or acknowledges our 'walk an extra mile' effort. This exchange may have taken just a few seconds, but the effects can last an entire day, a week or even change the course of our lives.

Deliberately choosing to make the most of our ordinary moments doesn't require endless hours of thought or skill. The only cost is pausing long enough in our stress filled days to recognize the obscure and inconspicuous goodness in others.

After all, Jesus always noticed seemingly "little" things about people. Cups of cold water, sparrows, snotty-nosed little kids, and blind beggars all interested him. He recognized extravagant love housed in brown-paper packages, such as the lunch of fish and bread the little boy gave up. Like the widow who gave her pennies to God.

Where is your focus today?
