Both to learn AND escape, depending on needs at the moment. That' why I have so many books beside my bed, on the table by my reading chair and on my Kindle. Different genre for different needs at different times.
Escape reading is more satisfying for me than escape TV viewing.
Seeing the words scroll through my head like subtitles under the images they inspire . . . I've probably just revealed more about how my mind works than the public needed to know.
