Christ with me sleeping,
Christ with me waking,
Christ with me watching,
each day and each night.
Save us, Lord,
while we are awake,
guard us while we are asleep; that,
awake, we may watch with Christ, and,
asleep, may rest in His peace.
Christ with me waking,
Christ with me watching,
each day and each night.
Save us, Lord,
while we are awake,
guard us while we are asleep; that,
awake, we may watch with Christ, and,
asleep, may rest in His peace.

Off the topic of the words but thinking about the icon.
ReplyDeleteIn all the many many icons, there are so many of Mary with Jesus as a child. . .
How was Mary PERCIEVED as a mother? Passive- allowing him to declare to her his pupose of being in the temple. Proud- her son did no wrong. Good, . . . ?
Just a thought.
Do you guys ever wonder things like that?

The images and relationship of Christ to His mother in the various icons is fascinating to try to decipher. Sometimes it tells me something of Jesus. Often it tells me something of the perception of the time or of the artist. They say the hands are clues to a lot of it . . . pointing where? Sometimes it is good to read the explanations and other times best to enjoy it for what I see in it myself.
ReplyDeleteUhm, I wonder at their conversations.
Of what was understood and when.
Of when the relationships markedly changed.
Wondering is good.
