For as long as we defend who we are, God will not work with us

toward something better. We sacrifice his

ultimate plan of glory for a little self esteemed preserved on the

front end. We have to turn against ourselves if we

are ever to experience his work first hand.

  3. This reminds me both of Velvet Elvis where we need not defend a trampoline as we would a wall . . . and of Henri Nouwen's encouragement to come to God with open hands . . . .
