Be still and know...

Every day the media announces even more distressing economic news. Here are today's CNN headlines:

"Economy similar to Great Depression"

"Stakes are huge for Obama and nation"

"Credit still tight at the nations banks"

"Economy: Sharpest decline in 29 years"

Doesn’t this seem to mirror what the psalmist describes as the

“earth being shaken, the mountains quaking to the depths of the sea, the sea raging and foaming and the mountains totters at the surging of the sea?”(Psalm 46:2,3)

The rock-solid foundations on which so many of us placed our hopes and our lives are crumbling. The earth is being shaken; the mountains are quaking to the depths of the sea.

In this current condition or in other unstable times, it takes courage to “Be still and know that I am God,” (Psalm 46:10). This simple act of confession and trust in God requires great faith.

Daily, we seek His constant presence to give us courage. Scriptures tell us that God is at our side in the midst of whatever difficulty we have: financial, medical, or personal. In Leviticus 26:11-13, scripture reveals God’s faithfulness in his promise...

I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people…”

We cannot wave a magic wand and erase all the trouble, anxiety, apprehension, and fear many of us may face. But I do know that God will be with us in the midst of our struggles, helping us navigate through each difficulty in our lives.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.(Psalm 46:1)
