Persevering Under Trial

To continue without halting despite difficulties or setbacks:

carry on, go on, hang on, keep on,
....

  • Does it mean 'making' it to the end of the trial?
  • Does it mean reaching the end is my goal?

Persevering is

one step + one step + one step = obedience

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4

How does perseverance 'finish its work' in my life?

"Do what it says...anyone who listens to the word but does not do
what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and,
after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what
he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law
that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has
heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does." James 1:23-25

  • Stop.
  • Evaluate what I'm doing...look at my face in the mirror...
  • Don't walk away forgetting
  • Look intently into the perfect law of God
  • Pull back and say..."I need to NOT use my time ....(here)...and...(here).

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12
